White Boxer Pups
Until we had our first litter of Boxer pups I thought white Boxer were rare. They are not.
White Boxer dogs make up 25% of all Boxers in the United States.
We had two white Boxer puppies in our first litter. A boy and a girl. When I mentioned this to a dog show photographer he said “That’s too bad, they will make good pets. But you might have a problem find a home for them.”
Why? Found out breeders used to euthanize them at birth! That’s horrible!
Information about White Boxer Dogs
The original Boxers in Germany were white until 1925. However, they became popular as police dogs and were too easily seen at night. This started the controversy of white Boxers.
- White Boxers are NOT albinos
- Only 12-14% of white Boxers are deaf
- White Boxers are no more susceptible to diseases than any other Boxer
- White Boxer CAN be registered with the AKC (American Kennel Club)
- White Boxers make up 25% of all Boxers
- Most white Boxers have colored markings (black spots, brown on head etc)
- White Boxers are VERY expressive looking
- White Boxers ARE more prone to sunburn (need doggy sunscreen)
What creates a white Boxer?
The genetics of the father (sire) and mother (dam) are the deciding factor in getting a white Boxer.
The more flash (amount of white) in both parents more higher the percentage of white Boxer pups in a litter. Both parents must carry the white gene to get a white Boxer
Are white Boxers a defect and should they be bred?
White is a color. White dogs exist in many breeds and white is no less desirable for a pet dog than any other color.
In my opinion, white Boxer dogs are NOT a defect. However, they do have a higher percentage of deafness than “colored” Boxers which only have a 2% deafness rate.
To bred white Boxers would technically increase the rate of deafness in the Boxer breed. You should never breed a dog that would increase the rate of a health problem.
Can you show white Boxers?
The AKC restricts Boxers in the show ring that have white on more than 1/3 of their body. This is strictly a confirmation and “breed standard” issues. However, you can compete in obedience competitions, agility trials, and other dog sporting events.

My love affair with white Boxer dogs
Since we have had three all white Boxer puppies in two litters I’ve fallen in love with these expressive derpy dogs. Yes, they are extremely funny in their facial expressions. They smile, a lot.

I am lucky my son has taken one of our white Boxer pups into his life so I get to see Boreas on a regular basis. Not only did I get to raise him from a pup, but I got to watch him grow into a very handsome dog.
